GATED organises talk on Muslims in America

Dr Craig Considine gave a talk at University of Denver presenting his book Muslims in America: Examining the Facts. The lecture was sponsored by the Sie Cheou-Kong Center for International Security and Diplomacy, Centre for Middle East Studies and School of Religious Studies at the University of Denver.  The talk was organised in such a way as to challenge the myths relating to the Muslims in America.

Dr Considine disproved the claim that Muslims are a new migrant population to the United States. Not only were the Muslims part of America since the begging of the state, Dr Considine showed how the founding fathers welcomed Muslims to American soil. A quote from George Washington states that “[The U.S.] is open to all the oppressed people” and not just those of a particular group. Dr Considine also confirmed that Muslims are highly integrated within the US and highlighted the levels of education amongst American Muslims. Muslims are one of the most educated groups in the United States behind Hindus and Jews with an average of 14 years of education and 39 percent achieving bachelor’s degrees. Presentation was concluded by noting that combating the Islamophobia industry which exists in the US (as well as globally) will be a major challenge for the forthcoming times. GATED continues to collaborate with Dr Craig Considine.
